3 Day Novel

Hmmm, should I do 3 Day Novel this year? I don't think I have any plans for that weekend and last year I did get a good chunk written. I'm not very good with the actually-sitting-down-and-writing thing so the 10K I got out was probably the most I've ever written of fic. Granted I got 10K in and hadn't even introduced one of the main characters yet. When I was talking to [personal profile] diurnal_lee about 3 Day Novel a couple months ago, I joked that it could be an annual tradition for me to write bits of that fic every year for 3DN and maybe in a decade it'll actually be finished (it's kind of an epic story :S).

I totally could write that fic but I'm not really feeling it right now. I'm a little too in love with Kradam at the moment to write John/Cameron. Although, if I wanted to do a bit of both, I could write that Kradam/Terminator crossover idea I have.... Or I could write the one where love at first sight is a medical condition and the boys come down with it while on Idol... and don't notice.

I need to start thinking about this now because I'm going to need to have some kind of story line laid out before going into the weekend if I want to get anything out of it.

Well if you're asking for input. I love the " love at first sight" idea. :)

Yeah, it is a fun idea, filled with late night cuddles and cock blocking and emergency trips to the hospital! It was this fic idea that finally had me download and watch all the S8 eps of AI because I wanted to establish a time line. BTW, watching the show was no help at all.

Why is it I can find pre-Idol time lines and post-Idol time lines, but no Idol time lines? I was late to this fandom, so I don't really have a cohesive idea of what was going on during Idol. All that I know, I learned from fic, which isn't all that consistent (which might mean no one will notice if I get things all messed up?).

Do you know when Adam started dating Drake? When he broke up with Brad? It's kind of important for my fic....

Heh, I am kind of leaning towards writing that one if I do 3 day novel. I probably have a chance of finishing the Terminator/Kradam cross over because it a shorter story but it's not as fun as the love at first sight one.

The only thing is, the love at first sight one (it's actually love at first touch) is based in a 'verse by another author and I'd be kind of afraid to wade into someone else's universe. However, if you'd like a taste of the 'verse, the original fic is a J2 fic that's been podficed

International 3 Day Novel Contest is a contest where you have 3 days to write a novel (no minimum word count, but you have to do write the whole thing Satuday-Mondy on Labour Day long weekend) and the winner gets their novel published (although you get to fix it up and, you know, edit it before it's published).

I never do it officially, since I pretty much just have fanfic ideas, which can't get published anyway but last year my room mates and I had a crazed writing weekend.

It's crazy but pretty fun. You're trying to get original fic published now, right? It might be worth a try. You just... can't be a perfectionist if you want to take part in this, you only have 72 hours. :)

3 Day Novel scares me, since I've never even been able to accomplish NaNo, where you have a whole month to finish your book. Still, I think it's a great thing to attempt if you have the energy, since it can help someone write more than they would have otherwise, even if they don't accomplish their goal!

Well, the one thing that is very different with 3dn from nano, is that you just don't have *time* to do anything but write. You don't have time to question whether or not what you've done is good. You don't have time to make excuses and procrastinate. You don't have time to get distracted.

I've only tried doing nano once and I got, like, 500 words down, since I would get distracted or think that I'd do it later. Then when later came I realized I was basically out of time so gave up.

And with 3dn, you're not likely to get a finished product out but you should have something that you can use as a first draft for something.

3dn is really good for forcing out a first draft of something.

PS. I hope college is going well for you so far! I saw the pic you posted on twitter of your bed, is your mattress balanced on one box? Or were there more I couldn't see?
