Happy New Year

Oh what a party animal I am. I was asleep by 10:30 last night. :-/ I have a bit of a cold, and when none of my plans for New Years Eve materialized I decided to just go home, curl up in bed and read. It was actually a really nice night for me, even if I got nothing done. I just read Torchwood fic and watched vids. Speaking of vids, today is my first day of vid recs! I thought I'd start with an SGA vid:

Title: Heights and Depths
Vidder: joli87
Song: For All Lovers by Stanfour
Fandom/Pairing: Stargate Atlantis - Team (and pretty much every pairing that has appeared on the show)
Why I Love It: First off, I *love* team vids, and this vid goes even beyond that. While it has a lot of Sheppard's team, it also has Weir and Carson, and Keller and Sam. It's a really inclusive vid.
Storyline wise, it sticks very close to the lyrics in a very complimentary way. The lyrics are simple and clear enough that you can immediately relate them to the clips the vidder has chosen, creating an emotionally charged storyline.
Technically speaking, I found the zooming in a bit dizzying at times, but other times it was just perfect for the music. She also makes great use of the internal movements of the clips, especially during the faster bits. All the timing seemed spot on, and the vidder has that knack for only putting the flashier transitions when required to strengthen the storyline, were it will have the most impact. She does this cool bit about 3/4 of the way through by telling mini stories through flashes with the drums, that are really effective.

I also wanted to say thank you so much to the people that sent me cards this season, namely the_muppet munchkinofdoom paradise_city ubiquitous_girl lemonpirfirefly and mercury973 (I think that's everyone, if you sent me a card and aren't listed, please let me know).

Happy New Year everyone!

I totally agree with this rec for all the reasons you mentioned. And I totally got first comment when she posted the vid, too. ;)

When did you send your card? I'm pretty sure I didn't get it...

I sent it about 10 days before Christmas.

Someone says they sent me one that I never got.

Rural postal service. Gotta love it.

Yeah, I woke up briefly at midnight when my bf said it was midnight then went back to sleep. It was nice that we had a half day at work and are off today so that I could drive the 3-1/2 hours (though yesterday's traffic made it over 4) to come see him, but GAH! I was tired after the week and drive....

Glad you got my postcard. You said you liked cards from odd places and for once I was in an odd place! Thought of you ;)

I got yours as well. That's one thing I dislike about the Dallas area; all about "modern" when it comes to architecture. NO personality and beauty. Very suburban and cookie-cuter. I went to my sort-of hometown of San Antonio Texas to see my mom and sister and her husband and little 2 yo daughter for a belated Christmas this last weekend and being downtown again was such a breath of fresh air. Beautiful architecture (by neophyte American standards anyway), the lights up along the riverwalk, of all things a lady piper (NOT a normal sight in Texas!) playing Amazing Grace (over and over, but well)...made me think of the FedCon crew!

All of this to say I rang in the new year mostly with my eyes closed, too, but hey, at least I didn't start the year behind on sleep (ike I usually am...)

Sorry for the crackish run-ons, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thanks, Happy New Year to you too!

Year end was pretty quiet for me, so that was good (although it's making up for lost time right now at work :S). Christmas was fun, how was yours?

And yes, vid recs, lots of vid recs. 31 at least :)
